blob was a dead-end: declarable but never fillable (no literal in either
mode, seed-unsupported), so a blob column could only ever hold NULL. Remove
Type::Blob + Value/CellValue::Blob + the base64 CSV path + the grammar slot
+ completion/render/type-change/seed handling + the binder refusal (whose
message also carried a user-facing "DSL" copy-rule bug). The vocabulary is
now nine types; base64 stays (clipboard OSC-52).
Backward compat is the ADR-0015 migration framework's first real use: a
v1->v2 format bump (CURRENT_SCHEMA_VERSION across serializer/parser/skeleton)
with a migrator that rewrites `type: blob` -> `type: text`, and a forced .db
rebuild from the migrated text when a blob column was actually converted
(the stale .db keeps a STRICT BLOB engine column). Conversion to text is
non-destructive and CSV-free. Covered by a full-stack integration test and a
Tier-4 PTY test that opens a real legacy v1-blob project.
Also sweeps the nine-type vocabulary through CLAUDE.md, requirements.md, the
website (type reference, seed doc, highlight grammar), and the ADR-0030/0033/
0035 cross-references; CHANGELOG Removed entry; handoff-79.
BREAKING CHANGE: the `blob` column type is removed. Existing projects that
declared a blob column are migrated on first open (the column becomes text;
the original project.yaml is kept as a .v1.bak).
- TT5: macOS is now fully covered — the full suite incl. Tier 4 ran green
natively on macOS (4 flows + startup; Linux-only RSS test cfg-skipped).
- TT5 Windows wording: automated execution is the one open piece. A standing
Windows CI runner is more involved than the Linux/macOS runners already in
use; kept open with no timing promise. Interim: Windows builds ship every
release and are verified by running the suite on Windows by hand periodically
— the same builds, manually verified rather than per-push. TT5 stays [/] by
deliberate scope. Framed in project terms, no host specifics.
- handoff-76 §6: macOS confirmation, the `pid` dead-code fix (1ffe11c), normal
off-target crate downloads, and the Windows decision.
Document the regression-hardening work from this session:
- ADR-0008 Amendment 1 — Tier 4 realized: the portable-pty + vt100 harness,
expectrl dropped, serial/fail-fast design, the four flows, sidebar-region
reads, command pacing (issue #39), CI default-target (advances TT5).
- ADR-0057 (new) — NFR verification strategy: contrast + ΔE2000 gates
(NFR-5/7), startup/RSS measured (NFR-1/3: release ~29 ms / ~10 MB),
NFR-2 by architecture, NFR-4/6 reviewer note. Records the two shipped
light-theme contrast defects this work caught and fixed.
- requirements.md: TT4 [~]->[x], TT5 [/] (only a Windows exec runner left),
NFR-1/2/3/5/7 ->[x], NFR-4/6 ->[/], each with evidence.
- CHANGELOG.md (new): Keep a Changelog + SemVer, [Unreleased] + [0.2.0].
- README ADR index updated; handoff-76; the working plan.
Docs-only (CI gate skips via paths-ignore).
Add the 4th publish.yaml sibling job: opens a PR to microsoft/winget-pkgs
with komac (pinned 2.16.0 prebuilt) for LazyEvaluation.RdbmsPlayground
(portable, x64 + arm64). Unlike scoop/homebrew it's a PR into Microsoft's
central, human-gated catalog - async and validated on their side.
- Auth: a classic public_repo GitHub PAT on a dedicated bot account
(lazyeval-ci; fine-grained tokens can't open the cross-fork PR - komac
#310), as the WINGET_GITHUB_TOKEN secret, job-scoped and passed to the API
guards via a 0600 curl config file (never argv).
- Idempotent via two guards before submitting (already-merged version +
already-open PR) so a repeated publish dispatch can't open a duplicate.
- No actions/checkout (komac works off URLs + the GitHub API).
Docs: ADR-0056 Amendment 4 - the model, the one-time manual `komac new`
bootstrap recipe (flags verified vs komac 2.16.0), and first-run learnings:
the fork must pre-exist, and a direct single-exe portable takes its PATH
alias from Commands[0] (not PortableCommandAlias, which is nested-only).
Plus README index + requirements D3.
Wiring only; going live needs the bootstrap PR (#391335, submitted) to merge.
Amendment 3: scoop install and brew install both verified end-to-end on
real Windows + macOS (install + run), resolving Amendment 2's unverified
caveats (incl. the HEAD:main push).
Records the root cause + fix for the Homebrew 403: Gitea (>=1.25)
303-redirects release downloads to a method-bound SigV4 presigned S3 URL;
brew resolves with HEAD, captures the HEAD-signed URL, then GETs it -> 403
(GET-only tools are unaffected). Fixed by a server-side Caddy rule that
answers HEAD on release-download paths directly (200, no redirect) so the
download GET re-runs the redirect fresh. That rule lives in the Gitea edge
config, NOT this repo - documented so a server rebuild doesn't silently
break brew. Includes the reference Caddyfile block.
Also notes the ad-hoc mac signature runs fine via brew; Developer-ID +
notarization stays parked on the Apple org conversion. Remaining D3: winget.
Add sibling publish.yaml jobs (scoop-bucket, homebrew-tap) that render a
manifest from the release .sha256 sidecars and idempotently push it to the
org-level lazyeval/scoop-bucket and lazyeval/homebrew-tap repos, using the
scoped lazyeval-ci bot token (LAZYEVAL_PKG_TOKEN).
Render logic lives in dependency-free bash (the CI image has no jq/ruby):
scripts/render-scoop-manifest.sh and scripts/render-homebrew-formula.sh.
scripts/test-package-renders.sh exercises both: it validates the Scoop JSON
with node and asserts fields on both manifests, and additionally runs
`ruby -c` on the formula where ruby is present (dev box), skipping it
gracefully otherwise.
A new ci.yaml `manifests` job runs that test on every push so a render
regression surfaces immediately, not at the next manual publish dispatch.
The CI image has no ruby, so in CI the gate covers the Scoop JSON (node) and
field assertions for both manifests; the formula's Ruby syntax is checked
dev-side only (the static heredoc's variable parts cannot introduce syntax
errors).
- Scoop: x64 (gnu) + arm64 (gnullvm); #/-rename fragment so the bin shim is
version-stable; checkver, no autoupdate (the pipeline is the updater).
- Homebrew: on_macos/on_linux x arch bare-binary formula; no Windows.
Docs: ADR-0056 Amendment 2 (+ README index, requirements D3).
Unverified pending real use: scoop/brew install, the HEAD:main branch
assumption, macOS Gatekeeper-via-brew on the ad-hoc-signed binary.
Post-merge documentation accuracy pass (CI and website branches both
merged to main; website deployed).
- CLAUDE.md: rewrite the stale repository-layout tree; add a Website &
docs-site decision bullet (Astro+Starlight, Cloudflare Pages via Gitea
Actions, ADR-website-001, the website branch stays open); update the CI
note (merged to main; release-macos dispatchable + verified working).
- requirements.md: D1 — macOS targets now runtime-verified (release-macos
dispatched end-to-end); DOC1 — canonical user docs now live on the
deployed website.
- ADR-ci-003 (+ docs/ci/adr README): Amendment 2 — CI on main,
release-macos dispatched + verified; macOS runtime-verified.
- docs/website/adr README: drop the stale "no CI yet".
- .gitignore: ignore .wrangler/ (Cloudflare Wrangler cache) and .vscode/;
remove the tracked website/.vscode/ an Astro template had added.
D3 (package-manager manifests) + some install instructions remain open.
Semantic verification pass over the tier-3 `hint` corpus (ADR-0053).
Four content errors corrected in src/friendly/strings/en-US.yaml:
- cmd.create_table: the example `with pk id(serial), name(text),
email(text)` declares a 3-column COMPOUND primary key, not a PK
plus regular columns (every `with pk` column is a key member,
ADR-0005). Rewritten to a single-column PK + `add column` for the
rest; what/concept aligned.
- cmd.save: `save as my-shop` does not parse — `save as` takes no
inline name, it opens a path-entry prompt. Example -> `save as`;
what no longer implies inline naming; added a temp-vs-named concept.
- cmd.import: target `shop-copy` does not parse — the `as <target>`
slot is a NewName ident that rejects hyphens. -> `shop_copy`.
- err.foreign_key.child_side: dropped the bogus `on delete set
null/cascade` remedy — that governs the parent direction; a
child-side violation is fixed by inserting the parent first
(matches the tier-1 hint).
Adds every_cmd_hint_example_parses_in_its_mode — a catalog-driven
guard that parses every hint.cmd.* example in its taught mode,
backstopping syntactic drift (it caught the save and import errors).
Registers the new hint.cmd.save.concept key.
docs: drop two stale "deferred" entries from CLAUDE.md — project
storage (export/import, --resume, input history, migration scaffold)
and m:n convenience (C4) are all implemented (ADR-0015/0045); record
the verification pass on requirements.md H2.
Completes H2:
- comprehensiveness coverage tests: every REGISTRY command form has a
hint_id resolving to a hint.cmd.* block, and every runtime error class
resolves to a hint.err.* block (enforces ADR-0053 D6)
- ADR-0051 keybinding strip advertises F1 in the editing (leads) and
default states; +shortcut.hint label; 12 full-panel snapshots
re-accepted (status-bar line only)
- flip ADR-0053 -> implemented, requirements H2 + A1 -> [x], README
2498 pass / 1 ignored, clippy clean.
Implement the deferred I1b readline shortcuts in the command input
field (ADR-0049, closing issue #29):
Esc clear a partly-typed command (only when no completion memo)
Ctrl-A cursor to line start (Home alias)
Ctrl-E cursor to line end (End alias)
Ctrl-W delete the previous word (readline-style, UTF-8 safe)
Ctrl-K kill to end of line
Ctrl-U kill to start of line
Esc precedence is preserved: a live Tab-completion memo still wins
(Esc undoes the completion first, ADR-0022); Esc clears only when no
memo is alive. While a sidebar panel is focused (Ctrl-O), Esc exits
navigation mode upstream and never clears the input draft. Cursor-only
keys leave history navigation intact like Home/End; buffer-mutating
keys end it like Backspace.
New helpers clear_input / delete_prev_word / kill_to_end /
kill_to_start in src/app.rs. 22 new Tier-1 tests (2458 pass / 0 fail
/ 0 skip, clippy clean). ADR-0049 amends ADR-0046's OOS list;
requirements.md I1b marked done.
Two additive D7 catalogue rules, surfaced while writing the website seed
docs. No change to the type fallback, executor, or grammar.
#33 — year-like int columns. `published`/`birth_year` were just `int`, so
they fell to the unbounded int path and produced nonsense (`9419`). Add an
int-gated year rule (after the quantity rule, so `year_count` stays a
count): `year`/`*_year`/`published`/`founded` -> a bounded 1950-2025 year
(new `YearRecent`), or the dob-style birth window 1945-2007 for
`birth`/`born`/`dob` (new `YearBirth`). Plain int; not added to the D9
named-generator vocabulary.
#34 — conventional choice sets. A few enum-ish names have a near-canonical
small set that reads far better than lorem text. Add a type-gated PickFrom
lookup (reusing the existing generator): priority/prio, severity,
rating/stars. `status` is deliberately excluded (values too
domain-specific) and keeps the D12 advisory; a user IN-CHECK still wins.
`priority` leaves ENUM_TOKENS.
ADR-0048 Amendment 1; +8 tests (incl. a column-fill integration test that
also closes a pre-existing gap on that path).
- ADR-0048 status -> Accepted; Phase 1 implemented (commits
202e25a..fbd219b), with the pre-build and post-implementation /runda
passes and the 2358-test green state recorded; index entry updated.
- requirements.md: SD1 [x] (whole-row seed + FK/junction, both modes,
--seed reproducibility with no exceptions), SD2 [/] (core generators /
determinism done; the set override clause + column-fill are Phase 2),
A1 14/15 (only hint/H2 remains unregistered).
- Handoff 65: the full seed Phase-1 build, the two /runda passes, where
the code lives, and Phase-2 / next steps.
Dedicated `seed` command: realistic, name-aware fake data via the
`fake` crate + a type-gated heuristic catalogue, table-context name
disambiguation, a hand-rolled product generator, bounded dates, an
identifier-uniqueness rule, a quoted `set` override clause (value /
list / generator / range), `--seed` reproducibility, FK sampling
(empty-parent error, junction distinct combinations), CHECK
derive-or-friendly-fail, undo as one batch step, replay as a
data-write, capped auto-show, and an enum/CHECK advisory.
Design settled across an extended user fork dialogue, then hardened
by a /runda DA pass that found six blockers (undo, replay, set
quoting, CHECK handling, advisory phasing, auto-show flood) — all
folded in, genuine forks re-escalated and user-resolved.
Takes up SD2 ([~]->[ ]); SD1 implementation in progress.
The trailing "multiple tabs" clause of S3 and V2 is dropped from
tracked scope by user decision. The output pane is settling on the
single scrollable V4 journal model rather than switchable result
tabs, so both items are now fully satisfied (the table view and
single-element visualisation were already built). V4 noted as the
sole tracked direction for evolving the output pane. A future
return to tabbed output would be a fresh requirement.
No ADR touched: multi-tab output never had a deciding ADR.
Accepted; implementation pending, phased A→B→C. Treats the three
coupled UI issues as one decision (shared width/height budget):
- #20 hint jumpiness: hint height becomes a function of terminal
geometry, fixed between resizes, so it no longer shoves the
input/output panels.
- #21 left column: kept but width-optional (hidden by default ≤90),
with a new relationships sibling panel and a Ctrl-O navigation/focus
mode (peek-reveal, expand-on-focus overlay, scroll).
- #23 long input: single-logical-line horizontal scroll plus a 2-row
display when tall, preserving the ADR-0027 indicator reserve.
A pre-build /runda DA pass drove key corrections: Ctrl-B→Ctrl-O (Ctrl-B
is the tmux prefix), an additive SchemaCache.relationship_details field
(retyping would break completion), full nav-mode key disposition +
modal gate, and Tier-2 snapshot coverage. Reconciles requirements
S1 (evolved), S2 (overridden — separate relationships panel), and
S4 (corrected — the stale "keyboard-toggleable" hint claim is struck;
no toggle added).
Updates docs/adr/README.md index and docs/requirements.md S1/S2/S4.
`create m:n relationship from <T1> to <T2> [as <name>]` generates a
junction table with one FK column per parent PK column ({table}_{pkcol},
typed via fk_target_type), a compound PK over them, and two CASCADE 1:n
relationships -- all in one do_create_table call = one undo step.
Auto-named {T1}_{T2} (optional `as`), both modes, compound-parent PKs
supported (ADR-0043). Self-referential m:n / PK-less parent / internal
junction name / name collision all refused.
Wired across every surface: grammar (separate CREATE_M2N node), worker
executor, runtime dispatch, completion ("m:n" composite), hints,
highlighting, help + usage catalog + disambiguator, and the advanced-mode
DSL->SQL teaching echo (render_create_m2n, round-trips as valid SQL).
Generalized/fixed framework assumptions the build + two /runda passes
surfaced (all behaviour-preserving for existing commands):
- simple-mode dispatch committed simple.first() unconditionally -> tries
candidates, so `create table` no longer shadows `create m:n`.
- the completion continuation-merge was advanced-only -> runs in simple
mode too when an entry word has >1 DSL form (gated simple_count>1).
- do_create_table now rejects internal `__rdbms_*` names (closes a
pre-existing hole on the DSL create-table path too, not just m:n).
- usage disambiguator now recognizes the `m:n` opener.
Tests: 14 integration (tests/it/m2n.rs), 7 typing-surface matrix, echo /
highlight / usage / internal-name units. Closes C4.
2237 pass / 0 fail / 1 ignored. Clippy clean.
Completes the X1 full sweep started in a8ad0c6 (db.rs). Closes X1 -> [x].
- persistence/mod.rs: debug! on every yaml/CSV/history write -- the
silent-failure-prone disk paths (write_schema, write_table_data incl.
the empty->delete branch, append_history/_failure).
- runtime.rs: debug! on execute_command_typed dispatch (one per executed
command, complements the db.rs executor logs).
- app.rs: debug! on submit (route + submission mode), dispatch_app_command,
and the ADR-0044 diagram-vs-prose render-mode choice.
- dsl/parser.rs: trace! on parse begin/outcome at the parse_command_inner
choke point -- trace, not debug, because the live overlay/completion
re-parse per keystroke (hot path).
- logging.rs: documented level discipline (error/warn/info/debug/trace) so
the convention survives across sessions.
Levels verified end-to-end through the real worker thread + logging::init.
~75 -> 135 tracing sites total. Tests: 2207 pass / 0 fail / 1 ignored.
Clippy clean.
Completes requirement V1. A compound (multi-column) FK now routes a
bus connector — each paired endpoint's stub merges into a shared
vertical channel that splits to the other side — plus an explicit
"(a, b) ▶ P.(x, y)" pairing line; the bus generalises the single-column
jog (reproducing it exactly, so prior snapshots are unchanged).
Self-referential FKs render as two same-named boxes.
- output_render.rs: gutter_seg routes all endpoint pairs via a
junction() bus; pairing line for compound FKs; compound, self-ref,
and compound-from-data (build_diagram_table glue) tests + snapshots
- compound_fk.rs: worker test that show_relationship carries both
paired column lists into the diagram payload
- db.rs: document do_show_one's now-app-superseded relationship prose
branch (retained as a worker-API/text fallback; could back a future
non-visual display option, cf. ADR-0044 OOS-7)
Second /runda pass over the implementation: confirmed ADR-compliance,
UTF-8/byte-range safety, and edge-case routing. The ADR §3 last-resort
helper line was considered and rejected (vertical fallback + ratatui
truncation cover all realistic cases). ADR-0044 marked implemented;
requirements.md V1 -> [x].
Full suite 2207 pass / 0 fail / 1 ignored; clippy nursery clean.
Multi-column FK parsing on both surfaces: DSL from P.(a, b) to
C.(x, y) (parenthesized endpoint; single bare form unchanged) and
SQL FOREIGN KEY (a, b) REFERENCES P(x, y) incl. bare-reference
auto-expand. consume_fk_reference + the table-level/ALTER FK
parsers collect column lists; the from P. completion now offers
( (snapshots updated). 12 integration tests in
tests/it/compound_fk.rs cover parse (both surfaces), engine-enforced
FK, arity + partial-PK + per-pair-type-mismatch refusal,
--create-fk per-column, save->rebuild round-trip, undo (one step),
and single-column preservation. Mark T3 [x]; ADR-0043 implemented.
Audit found single-column FK woven through ~15-20 sites; earns an
ADR. Decision: reference the parent's full compound PK, matched
positionally to an equal-length child list, per-pair type compat.
DSL `from P.(a,b) to C.(x,y)`; SQL `FOREIGN KEY (x,y) REFERENCES
P(a,b)` with bare-FK auto-expansion. Storage follows the existing
primary_key: [...] list convention (yaml columns: [a,b], uniform
JSON in unchanged metadata TEXT cols); back-compat not required,
so no migration. Also marks T3's verified scope.
Fold the singular per-item forms into Command::ShowList { kind,
name: Option<String> } (name: Some = one item). Two grammar
branches reuse the relationship/index completion sources; worker
do_show_one renders a labelled detail block or a friendly
"No ... named X." line, reusing the V5 render path. Help +
parse-usage entries, two ADR-0042 near-miss rows, 5 integration
tests. Mark V5a [x] — V5's [<name>] clause now complete.
HELP node takes an optional single-word topic (BarePath);
AppCommand::Help { topic }. note_help_topic renders the help
block(s) of every command sharing that entry word (so `help
create` covers both create forms), plus `help types` and a
friendly "no help for X" pointer for unknown topics. Full help
gains a detail-hint footer. Catalogued help.detail_hint /
help.unknown_topic; parse-error matrix updated (help now takes a
topic, so the near-miss is the multi-word case). 9 integration
tests in tests/it/help_command.rs. Mark H3 [x].
Add the list-all show family as one Command::ShowList { kind }
variant. A read-only worker show_list formats count-headed lists
(reusing do_list_tables / read_all_relationships /
read_table_indexes, so it never drifts from the items panel);
internal __rdbms_* tables excluded. Help + parse-usage entries
added; 10 integration tests in tests/it/show_list.rs.
Mark V5 [x]. Split the singular show relationship/index <name>
detail forms (the [<name>] half) into a new tracked V5a [ ] item
rather than leaving them as an untracked footnote.
Audit of all 35 [ ] items vs source found ~46% mis-marked. Add a
[/] partial marker; promote 7 shipped-but-open items to [x]
(S1/S4/S5/I1a/I3/I4/C1) and 9 substantially-built ones to [/]
with gap notes (S3/A1/V1/V2/V5/T3/H3/DOC1/X1). Fix CLAUDE.md's
false "Tier 4 is wired" claim — no PTY tests exist.
requirements.md H1a → [x]: the per-command near-miss matrix (entry words,
missing clauses, committed multi-forms, both modes) plus the gap fixes
(G1 `1:n relationship`, G2 select projection gloss, G3 mode-aware usage
showing all valid forms, G4 `with` CTE template, CROSS JOIN ON teaching
message) close the systematic pass. The advanced-SQL items the survey
flagged (INSERT…SELECT count, RETURNING scope) were verified already
present. One low-priority residual is deferred by decision (submit-time
expression first-set at non-projection positions).
ADR-0042: record the pre-existing `SELECT *` arity caveat (INSERT…SELECT
with a star projection isn't expanded for pre-flight arity; engine
catches it at execution — adjacent to ADR-0019 §OOS-2).
Verification found H1 (ADR-0019) fully implemented and tested: the
friendly::translate_error chokepoint is wired on the live failure path
(runtime + app + DbError::friendly_message), covers all five error
categories (UNIQUE, FOREIGN KEY both sides, NOT NULL, CHECK,
type-mismatch) with operation×kind×verbosity wording, the messages
verbosity command, and §6 row-pinpointing via runtime-resolved facts —
backed by 44 friendly unit tests + 12 full-stack friendly_enrichment
integration tests. The "partial / FK-only" notes were stale.
Mark requirements H1 done; fix the obsolete "diagnostic_table is
always None" comment in translate.rs (pinpointing landed in 431645a).
Remaining ADR-0019 scope (§9 i18n sweep, §OOS-2 advanced-SQL
sanitization, §OOS-3 messages persistence) stays deferred.
New app-level `copy` / `copy all` / `copy last` command (ADR-0041).
Delivery is OSC 52 *and* a best-effort native write (arboard), always
both — OSC 52 acceptance is undetectable, so a true fallback can't be
built. Payload is the panel's plain text exactly as rendered (tags,
✓/✗, box-drawing), drift-locked to render_output_line. arboard added
--no-default-features (X11-only; OSC 52 covers Wayland).
Amends ADR-0003's command registry; requirements V6.
The input mode always started in simple; a learner who quit in advanced
had to re-toggle every launch. Store the mode per-project in project.yaml
(project.mode:, optional, default simple) and restore it on every open.
Mode is live UI state, not schema: the worker stamps the current mode
into project.yaml on every write, so a later command rewrites the live
value rather than clobbering it — no db round-trip needed. The mode is
persisted on unload (quit + project switch) so the mode you leave a
project in is always what reopens; the `mode` command also persists
immediately. A switch saves the outgoing mode, then restores the
incoming project's stored mode.
New --mode simple|advanced CLI flag (precedence --mode > stored >
simple; combines with --resume). A teacher can ship a project that
opens in advanced mode and export it to students (the mode travels in
the zip).
ADR-0015 Amendment 1; ADR-0003 note; help banner; requirements L1b.
Add src/dsl/sql_functions.rs (KNOWN_SQL_FUNCTIONS) as the shared source
of truth at sql_expr_ident slots:
- #15: offer the functions as Tab candidates under a new
CandidateKind::Function + ninth Theme colour tok_function (blue,
distinct from keyword/identifier/type).
- #16: restore the column-typo flag the #6 fix had dropped wholesale —
invalid_ident_at_cursor now bails only when the partial prefix-matches
a known function, else falls through to the schema-column check.
A column named like a function (e.g. `count`) is deduped (column wins).
`cast` is excluded — CAST(x AS type) is not a plain-call shape.
The no-validation-allowlist posture stands: the list drives completion +
the typo hint only, never parse-time acceptance.
Docs: ADR-0022 Amendment 6, ADR-0031 status note, README index,
requirements I3/I4 + refreshed test baseline.
An audit of the command surface found the `[ok] <verb> <subject>`
summary line duplicated the echo line above it everywhere; its only
unique signal was success-vs-error. Retire it: a command's echo line
now resolves from `running: <input>` to `<input> ✓` / `<input> ✗`
on completion, and the symmetric `"<verb> <subject>" failed:` prefix
is dropped (only the reason remains). Content lines (row counts,
structure, plan tree, teaching echo) are unchanged.
Echo lines carry an EchoStatus; executed commands push Pending and
resolve the oldest-pending echo on their result event (FIFO worker —
correct under interleaving). Parse-time and pre-flight rejections are
not executed and keep their running: + caret rendering. App-command
[ok] lines (rebuild/export/replay) are payload-bearing and untouched.
ADR-0040.
explain now wraps the advanced SQL commands — select, with (CTE),
insert, update, delete — in addition to the DSL show data/update/
delete it already covered, rendering through the same plan tree
(ADR-0039, closing the ADR-0030 OOS-2 gap).
Implemented as a second Advanced `explain` CommandNode under the
shared entry word, reusing the established shared-word dispatch
(SQL-first, DSL-fallback) rather than new grammar machinery.
build_explain_sql slices the inner SQL off the source and reuses the
existing SQL builders; do_explain_plan runs EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN over
the carried text verbatim (never executes, so safe for destructive
verbs). Advanced explain update/delete now route through SQL with an
identical plan; DSL-explain tests pinned to simple mode. Help and
usage text now list the advanced explain forms.
The undo/redo confirmation dialog capped at 60 columns and wrapped
even a short insert on wide terminals, showed a lowercase "snapshot
taken", a raw ISO-8601 timestamp, and lowercase yes/no labels.
Grow the dialog to fit its longest line (bounded 34–100), capitalise
Snapshot/Yes/No, and render the snapshot timestamp in local time,
human-formatted (24 May 2026, 11:00) via a new chrono dependency
(clock feature only; English month names). Yes/No capitalisation also
applies to the rebuild-confirm dialog.
Both Node::Ident and Word carried a highlight_override field, and
both were dead — the walker driver discarded the Ident's and
walk_word hardcoded Keyword. So column types (int, serial, …)
rendered identically to table/column names.
Wire both overrides through, and add a dedicated HighlightClass::Type
with its own theme colour (tok_type), distinct from keyword-purple
and identifier-teal. The three type Ident slots opt in, so canonical
types and the advanced-mode single-word SQL aliases (float, varchar,
…) render as types; the two-word `double precision` alias opts in via
a new Word::type_keyword constructor. ADR-0022 Amendment 4.
A wrong-count simple-mode insert now shows the friendly per-column arity
message at typing time (instead of a bare "expected `,`/`)`") and is
blocked from dispatch at submit — unifying simple and advanced mode onto
the one ADR-0027 model (structural parse + ERROR diagnostic), where they
had diverged.
Grammar: a simple-mode-only arity gate (dsl_insert_value_list) routes a
wrong-count DSL insert tuple to the type-blind fallback so it matches
structurally and the per-tuple arity diagnostic fires. The gate is gated
to simple mode, so advanced behaviour is unchanged. count_tuple_values
and the target-column selection (insert_target_columns) are now shared
by both grammars.
Diagnostic: dml_insert_arity_diagnostics is mode-aware — advanced Form B
expects all columns; simple Form B/C expects the user-fillable columns
(serial/shortid auto-fill). It counts the DSL Form A role and scans the
keyword-less Form C tuple. New catalog keys name the fillable/auto split
and the all-auto-table case.
Submit: a wrong-count DSL insert now parses Ok + carries the ERROR
diagnostic, so a unified Ok-arm pre-flight (dsl_insert_count_mismatch_notes)
blocks dispatch and teaches; the previous Err-arm note retires.
advanced_alternative_note's gate now reads the validity verdict so it
still fires for the parse-Ok-with-error shape.
Docs: ADR-0036 Amendment 2 (+ README index) and requirements.md H1a.
The ambient-hint fallback in ambient_hint_core_in_mode parsed
schemalessly, so the type-blind grammar closed an `insert … values
(…)` tuple after the first value and the "Next:" hint pointed at `)`.
With a schema available the walk knows the remaining columns and the
correct next token is `,`. Parse the fallback with the schema cache so
the expected-token prose matches the rest of the (already
schema-aware) hint ladder.
Also corrects wrong-arity closed tuples where the schemaless parse
accepted the input and the hint said "submit with Enter" for a command
the schema-aware parse rejects — the hint now surfaces the accurate
error. Three typing-surface snapshots updated to match.
Docs: ADR-0022 Amendment 3 (+ README index) records the schema-aware
fallback; requirements.md H1a cites the hint-accuracy improvement.
Three layered fixes for advanced/simple-mode positional INSERT
value-count mismatches (e.g. `insert into T values (...)` with the
wrong number of values for T's column count), plus ADR-0033
Amendment 5 recording the gate refinement.
Walker diagnostic (dml_insert_arity_diagnostics): the function's own
doc-comment recorded the no-column-list (Form B) case as deferred.
This commit closes that gap. Form B mismatches now emit a new
diagnostic.insert_arity_mismatch_form_b ERROR per offending tuple,
keyed off the target table's column count from the schema cache. The
[ERR] validity indicator (ADR-0027) lights up at typing time for the
reported scenario, no longer needing a submit.
Cross-mode pointer gate (advanced_alternative_note): refactored from
a hand-rolled Form B count check to a single input_verdict_in_mode(
input, schema, Mode::Advanced) call. The pointer fires only when the
verdict is None — the ADR-0027 sense of "valid". Any future static
check added to the verdict pipeline participates automatically; no
per-feature maintenance.
Teaching notes for the value-count cases users can hit before the
indicator turns red:
- simple-mode submit: insert.form_b_extra_values_note covers under-,
in-window, and over-supply against the Form B contract; suppressed
when the cross-mode pointer fires (to avoid parallel advice).
- advanced-mode dispatch pre-flight:
insert.form_b_positional_count_mismatch_note catches a submitted
mismatch with a teaching message before the engine produces its
raw NOT-NULL / type error.
The advanced_mode.also_valid_sql pointer wording was reworked to
"trying to write SQL? switch with `mode advanced`, or prefix `:` to
run once". One insta snapshot regenerated.
ADR-0033 Amendment 5 records the gate change: Amendment 3's "would
parse in advanced mode" now reads as "valid in advanced mode" in the
explicit verdict-is-None sense, with the precise definition spelled
out so future readers can't drift back to the syntactic-only reading.
ADR-0000 index entry updated; docs/requirements.md H1a citation added
listing the three new pedagogical strings.
Tests added (8): four walker arity tests (under-supply, over-supply,
match, unknown-table); two app-level teaching-note tests for the
sibling cases (under-supply, over-supply beyond total); one pointer-
gate unit test pinning the bug-case suppression; one gate-precedence
test ensuring only one advice line per error. Existing
simple_mode_submit_of_sql_construct_appends_advanced_pointer updated
to use a known schema (the new validity gate requires it).
Full suite: 2031 passed, 0 failed, 0 unexpected skips. Clippy clean.
Surfaces from a Devil's-Advocate audit of the DSL → SQL teaching echo
(ADR-0038) after Phases 1-3 landed: three doc-drift bugs introduced
by the earlier handoff-47 / ADR-promotion commits — requirements.md
M4 and both ADR-0038 README index entry + Status block still said
"Phase 2 / Phase 3 remain," but `275c726` and `e6ad1ae` shipped them.
Updated to reflect actual state: Buckets A + B complete plus the
category-3 prose; only the §4 styled-runs polish remains. ADR-0037's
README entry also touched to note all four shipping commits of its
consumer.
Plus a missing test slice the DA flagged: explicit no-echo coverage
for the Bucket C cases that flow through command_to_sql's catch-all
(show table, explain, replay, every Command::App variant). The
contract — ADR-0030 §10 / ADR-0038 §7 Bucket C — forbids echoes for
these; a future renderer arm added at the wrong place could silently
leak one. The new bucket_c_no_echo_commands_all_return_none pins
that.
Tests: 2015 passed / 0 failed / 1 ignored (pre-existing); clippy
clean. Nothing to escalate.
Flip stale Phase-1 checkboxes whose capability is clearly delivered:
M1/M2/M3 (modes), Q1/Q2 (SQL subset — shipped via the unified walker, not
sqlparser-rs), TT1/TT2/TT3 (test tiers 1–3) → [x]; TT4 (PTY e2e, critical
flows only) → [~].
Fix stale CLAUDE.md claims: the stack no longer uses chumsky (DSL) or a
reserved sqlparser-rs (SQL) — both retired (ADR-0024 §migration Phase F);
the DSL and advanced-mode SQL are both parsed by the unified grammar
walker (ADRs 0024 / 0030–0036). Corrects the stack note, drops the
now-done "SQL handling in advanced mode" deferred bullet, and updates the
parser.rs layout comment.
Lower-confidence items (C1 rename, A1, I1a, I3, I4, T3, V2, export/import,
resume) left for a dedicated per-item reconciliation pass (handoff-45 §5).
A Form-A advanced-mode INSERT that omitted a non-PK serial column left it
silently NULL (the column is INTEGER UNIQUE, not NOT NULL, so SQLite
permits it), while simple-mode do_insert auto-fills it with MAX+1. That
violated ADR-0018 §1's "auto-generated on every path" contract and was the
unprincipled serial-vs-shortid asymmetry the ADR set out to remove
(advanced mode already auto-fills shortid).
Fix (decision: advanced mode matches simple mode): the advanced-mode
auto-fill reconstruction — renamed plan_shortid_autofill →
plan_autogen_autofill — now also fills an omitted non-PK serial with
MAX(col)+1 … MAX+n per row (single- and multi-row), reading MAX once under
the worker's single-writer serialisation. PK serial stays on the rowid
alias; Form B (no column list) still supplies every column. Honours
ADR-0018 §1/§5; no ADR amendment needed (the contract already said "every
path"). requirements.md X4 marked resolved.
Tests: 1949 passing (+1), 0 failed, 0 skipped, 1 ignored; clippy clean.
Narrow ADR-0036 from "bind literals via the DSL path" to "validate literal
values (shared validators) + retain them; execute verbatim, keep auto-fill
and command identity mode-specific" — after a concrete auto-fill difference
(non-PK serial) confirmed the modes aren't identical even for single-row
literals. Augments (no longer supersedes) ADR-0030 §4 / ADR-0033 §10;
Amendment 3 stands. README + forward-notes on 0030/0033 updated. Records
requirements.md X4 (serial auto-fill — possible bug) and X5 (framework
cohesion / share-mechanics-not-commands).
The one genuinely new low-level op in Phase 4: a native engine RENAME TO
plus one-transaction reconciliation (commit-db-last) of everything the
engine does not track —
- every metadata row naming the table: __rdbms_playground_columns, both
ends of __rdbms_playground_relationships (FK parent, child, and
self-referential), and __rdbms_playground_table_checks;
- the CSV file, via the existing persistence rewrite+delete path
(rewritten_tables=[new], deleted_tables=[old]) — no new method;
- CHECK text that qualifies a column with the old table name
(T.age → U.age, column- and table-level): the engine rewrites the live
CHECK but the stored text would drift and break a fresh rebuild (a
planning-/runda finding); rewrite_check_table_qualifier keeps them in
step. Bounded — a CHECK references only its own table.
Grammar: a fifth AlterTableAction (RenameTable { new }), added by
splitting the `rename` verb into one branch with an inner Choice on a
distinct second keyword (column vs to); the new-name slot mirrors the
CREATE TABLE name slot (NewName + reject_internal_table validator).
Refusals are engine-neutral and case-insensitive (the engine matches
names that way): same-name, case-only, existing-target, __rdbms_*, and
non-existent source. Auto-named indexes and relationships keep their
stale names (only table-name columns update — §6 scope). One undo step;
advanced-mode only; closes the rename half of C1.
Tests: 8 Tier-3 e2e + rewrite-helper unit tests + parse-dispatch tests.
Full suite 1903 passing / 0 failing / 1 ignored; clippy clean.
ALTER TABLE <T> ADD [CONSTRAINT <name>] (CHECK | UNIQUE | FOREIGN KEY)
and DROP CONSTRAINT <name>. ADD = table-CHECK + composite UNIQUE + FK
(ADD PRIMARY KEY and a named UNIQUE refused — composite UNIQUE is
anonymous in our model). Each ADD reuses a low-level path with a dry-run
guard (table-CHECK/UNIQUE rebuild; FK -> add_relationship, bare
REFERENCES -> parent single PK). DROP CONSTRAINT resolves the name to a
named table-CHECK then a child-side FK, else refuses. One undo step each.
Named table-CHECKs round-trip: a nullable `name` column on
__rdbms_playground_table_checks (rebuild-only arrival; a named add on a
pre-4g project is refused with a "rebuild first" hint) plus a project.yaml
check_constraints {expr, name} extension (bare-string form still reads).
The internal-__rdbms_* guard was folded into do_add_constraint /
do_add_relationship, completing that guard class.
Grammar: the action Choice keeps one branch per verb (add/drop/rename/
alter) with an inner Choice fanning out on the distinct second keyword,
since the walker's Choice does not backtrack between same-led branches.
Tests: 7 Tier-1 parse + 2 yaml round-trip + 1 internal-guard + 9 Tier-3
e2e. Help/usage refreshed; ADR-0035 §13 4g + README + requirements.md in
lockstep.
Fourth AlterTableAction (AlterColumnType), runtime-decomposed to the
existing change_column_type executor with ForceConversion — which IS the
§7 advanced policy: lossy converts with a note (no force flag),
incompatible + the ADR-0017 static refusals (↔blob, same-type,
date↔datetime, non-int→serial) still refuse, while int→serial is allowed
(auto-fills nulls + UNIQUE, ADR-0018 §8). No new mode/note/persistence;
undo is the advanced safety net.
Grammar adds a fourth action branch leading on `alter`, discriminated in
the builder by the `type` keyword (unique — ADD COLUMN's type is an
ident); the type slot reuses SQL_TYPE. The internal-__rdbms_* guard was
folded into do_change_column_type (user-confirmed), closing the simple
`change column` exposure.
Tests: 7 Tier-3 e2e via run_replay + 4 Tier-1 parse (incl. a column-named-
`type` discriminator probe) + the simple-surface guard. Help/usage
refreshed; ADR-0035 §13 4f + README + requirements.md in lockstep.
